It’s fair to say newly married golfer Daniel Hillier is on Cloud Nine.

Days after tying the knot to long-time partner Siobhan Weaver, the Wellington golfer was still ‘buzzing’ on the eve of the New Zealand Open.

The 27-year-old even had to pause before making sure he correctly referred to her as his ‘wife’ during his press conference at Arrowtown’s Millbrook Resort.

“Obviously, just had the best day of my life on Saturday. Finally becoming a married man,” Hillier said, his distinctive moustache gone.

“But, obviously, got a job to do this week, so, yeah, we’ll lock in and then celebrate properly after this.”
Indeed, the newly wed couple have put their celebrations on ice for the 105th New Zealand Open, the $2 million tournament starting today, which comes with a ticket to The Open for the winner.

It goes without saying, becoming the first Kiwi winner since Michael Hendry in 2017 would only make the looming honeymoon more special for the top-ranked New Zealander in the field.

“We’re actually off to Melbourne for the Formula 1 [next weekend] to start us off. Neither of us have done that before, we’re both pretty into that, and then off to Fiji for a few days to lay low and soak it all in,” Hillier said.
